General information about Aromex in the US
An aromatase inhibitor, structurally similar to the natural steroid androstenedione hormone.
In postmenopausal women, estrogens are produced primarily by conversion of androgens to estrogens by the enzyme aromatase in peripheral tissues. The mechanism of action is due to irreversible binding eksemestana active fragment aromatase, which leads to enzyme inactivation.
Exemestane has no progestogenic and estrogenic activity. When using only a small androgenic activity manifests itself in high doses. No effect on the biosynthesis of cortisol and aldosterone in the adrenal glands.
A slight increase in the levels of LH and FSH in the serum observed even at low doses of exemestane. This effect, however, is not typical for preparations of this pharmacological group. He probably developed on the basis of feedback at the pituitary level: decrease the concentration of estrogen stimulates the secretion of gonadotropins in the pituitary gland and also in postmenopausal women.
